[ABOUT THE BAND] [Robert's Bio] [Ian's Bio] [Ryan's Bio] [David's Bio] David Brendon
David began taking piano
lessons based on the Royal Ontario Conservatory curriculum at age 12 and
continued with lessons through high school.
At Saltfleet High School he met Paul Mitchell and began a musical relationship and
friendship that lasts to this day. Through
Paul he met Keith Elliott who introduced him to another great group of friends
(Mark Hewson, Rob DiFrancesco and Jeff DiFrancesco) and they would get together
in basements and jam to original progressions (sans vocals). During the late 70s, while
still in high school, there was the formation of an early punk/new wave band. This band featured front men David Craig and Victor
Polk on vocals (and toy piano), Peter Gray on guitar, drummers Dave Manto or Terry Crawford and guest vocals of Brenda
Hough. This band played various
functions including the Saltfleet High School cafeteria, Dance-a-thons and
parties under the names Cooties
Vaccination or The Pink Flamingos.
During first year university
David was constantly distracted by music and had regular jam sessions with Paul
Mitchell and Ian Nielsen playing such progressive rock classics as ‘Supper’s
Ready’ and ‘In the Court of the Crimson King’ – including the 3 part recorder
harmony! Later, at McMaster University, David met
a fellow Physics major and bass player, Peter Williams. Peter introduced David to Steve Didemus and together they held regular jam sessions and
played at a few folk clubs. David and Paul decided they
needed a reliable bass player and so
they taught David’s high school sweetheart (now wife) Brenda Hough to play bass
– adopting a very unique style. In the
early 90s they formed a basement ‘jam band’ with Brenda Hough Brendon on bass,
Paul Mitchell and David Polk on guitar and Mark Hewson and Victor Polk on drums. They played at a few family ‘Stag & Does’
and then became the ‘House Band’ at
the late Ray Dolan’s Receiving Door
gatherings. Here they were joined by
Keith Patterson on guitar and Lori on vocals.
In the 90s, David became reacquainted with a friend from high school, Bob Friesen, who is an excellent singer/songwriter/guitar player. David and Bob began semi-weekly jams with drummer David Murray, mostly working on performing Bob's original tunes. David was honoured to play on Bob's original CD "Reaching for Bhudda's Big Toe".
There was a short hiatus from jamming during the year (2002/3) that David, Brenda and Kerala lived in Copenhagen. After returning from Denmark, computer gaming
pals turned their computers from gaming to music and have since been holding
regular Friday night social jams: Guitars:
Glen Saevil & Paul Mitchell - with support from Dave Mackie; Drums: David
Kuehner with support from David Craig & Mark Hewson. The band is known as Flaw’d Dawg and they occasionally play parties
and benefits. In 2007, David was honoured to be invited to play with AmperTower: Guitar/Vocals: Steve Testa; Guitar: Don Brunton; Drums: Tim Schneider and Bassman Dave “Snake” Wills. AmperTower reunites annually for special events - bringing together the friends from across North America (Dallas,TX, Portland,OR and Ottawa,ON) Since 2008, David also began jamming semi-regularly with James Kubik, Jan Stefanski, Tommy Gollan and Clint. David was invited to play on Jan's latest recording at Todd Pyper's studio in Grimsby.
The success of the AmperTower gigs raised David’s desire to play out and
pushed him to develop his playing. In
January, 2009, he auditioned for Rhythm
and Bones and is enjoying the challenge to keep up with these fine
musicians. Over the years David has jammed with many other great muscians including:
